Combined Action of Dibekacin with Cefotiam or Moxalactam against Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract
Minimum inhibitory concentrations(MICs) of ampicillin(AP), cefotim(CT), methicillin(MT), moxalactam(MX), amikacin(AK), dibekacin(DK), gentamicin(GM), and kanamycin(KM) were measured against 30 strains of pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus and combined action of DK with CT or MX were examined on each tested strain using checkerboard dilution method.
Most of the tested strains were resistant to AP, DK, GM, and KM, while the tested strains in general (about 80%) were susceptible to CT, MT, MX, and AK.
The rate of synergism of each drug combination was 63.3% in DK-CT and 40% in DK-MX combination. In the combination of DK and CT, the rate of synergism on the DK-susceptible strains was significantly higher (about 20%) than that on the DK-resistant strains. No such difference, however, was noted in the combination of DK and MX.
